RYA Celestial Navigation course complete

Just finished teaching the RYA Ocean Theory course in the classroom last Friday.  40 hours of hard but satisfying work for the candidates, in 5 days. Learning sight reduction and the mysteries of the sextant.

Final Schedule

With a few adjustments, the schedule of our courses is now set.  The only unknown is that the course September 10-14 could be either Day Skipper/Comp crew or a Coastal Skipper , but not both.  The first booking will determine the course.

Slight schedule change

Due to the schedule change of our Yachtmaster Examiner, we have moved: The September Yachtmaster prep and exams week from September 10 to September 24. The July Yachtmaster prep and exams week from July 9 to June 25. I hope that this does not affect anyone.

New Prop for Michaela

Here is the prop we will be using in 2018 and beyond.  A Campbell Sailer 17x9.5LH. I love these props. It will give more 'grunt' in reverse.  The old prop was also a Campbell sailer, 15x9RH.

AIS Transceiver

We have an AIS (Automatic Identification System) Transceiver on Michaela.  It allows us to be seen and tracked by a large range of vessels and in particular, the big ones.  It is a great collision avoidance device and as prices come down, more and more vessels are acquiring one. Mile Builders

We just completed two mile builder trips - Chester to Charlottetown PE and return, a total of 602 nautical miles with pretty good weather.  Good food, skill building, night sailing .... all in all a very good 2 weeks for everyone. Maybe the Bay of Fundy should be on the list for next year.
